Attention Coupling Academy
The study of how attention becomes coupled
ACA is an academy devoted to a single question: how attention becomes coupled to objects, beliefs, narratives, emotions, identities, and patterns of perception — and what follows once it does.
Working Discipline
ACA distinguishes three kinds of claims:
What can be supported through research, texts, observation, or other available evidence.
A philosophical, symbolic, or conceptual reading of the evidence that may guide inquiry without presenting itself as proof.
A proposed model or explanation that remains open to testing, refinement, confirmation, or rejection.
The Working Model
Possibility → Attention → Coupling → Synthesis → Emergence → Creation
A working hypothesis: what begins as possibility enters awareness through attention; selected elements become coupled; coupling may produce synthesis, emergence, and eventually creation.
Where to begin
Start with the ideas
Explore the Academy's evolving conceptual vocabulary: Attention Coupling, the Filtering Function, Kairos, the Proteus Principle, and related concepts.
Start with the practices
Explore practices and protocols developed from the Academy's study of attention.
Start with the Odyssey
Explore the primary source material behind the Academy's inquiry, book by book, and trace the patterns from which its concepts emerge.
Start with the research
Explore the questions, evidence, interpretations, and hypotheses that remain under investigation.
Selected Books
From the Author
These books are not official Academy doctrines. They are selected works by Anthony Vresland that explore questions related to the Academy's research.
Homer's Oracle of Attention
A book-by-book reading of Homer's Odyssey through the lens of attention as a connecting force. It is one of the principal sources from which the Academy's central concepts emerged.

Automedon
A reading of Automedon in Homer's Iliad as a figure of sustained, non-heroic care — and the source of the Academy's Automedon Principle.

The Language of VEC: The Titan Proxies
A related work exploring VECs, attention, intention, and the structures through which human experience may be organized.
Explore the book →This is a work in progress. The Academy's research corpus is extensive but incomplete. Some questions remain open. Some concepts are provisional.
The absence of an answer is not a failure of the inquiry. It is part of the Working Discipline.
