In the context of the three wounds, Attention Coupling is the capacity to sense, beneath the surface of the immediate situation, the deeper patterns that govern whether a given configuration of attention will serve or harm the organism.

The wounded attention is decoupled: it responds to the immediate stimulus without sensing the larger field.

The healing of attention is the restoration of coupling, the return of the capacity to feel the whole in the part, the future in the present, the consequence in the choice.

Book 10 — The Friction Collapse

In Book 10, Attention Coupling is the capacity that Eurylochus exercises when he senses the disproportion of the Laestrygonian palace: the tuning of the nervous system to cues that are not yet available to conscious analysis.

The captured attention of the Circe episode is decoupled attention: attention that has lost its connection to the latent field and operates only on the surface of immediate experience.

The recovery from friction collapse is, in part, the restoration of coupling, the return of the capacity to sense the deeper patterns that the smooth surface of the present conceals.

Book 12 — The Trials

In Book 12, Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the recognition of the Sirens' song as trap rather than gift, the reading of the strait as necessity choice rather than impasse, the perception of the cattle as sacred boundary rather than food.

The captured attention of the crew—the attention that hears the song as pleasure, that sees the strait as paralysis, that perceives the cattle as meat—is decoupled attention, attention that has lost its connection to the latent field and operates only on the surface of immediate appearance.

Book 15 — The Convergence

Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the perception of the latent recognition field—the sensing of the resonance, the vibration, the quality of presence that distinguishes the genuine convergence from the accidental meeting.

The captured attention of the forced recognition—the attention that demands the immediate naming of what has not yet been named—is decoupled attention.

Book 17 — The Threshold Crossing

Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the recognition of the margins—the sensing of the devotion that sees through the disguise, the perception of the love that penetrates the concealment, the awareness of the attention that perceives what the ordinary glance cannot perceive.

Book 18 — The Trial of the Disguise

Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the calibrated disclosure—the sensing of the exact measure of strength to display, the perception of the precise calibration of capacity to reveal, the awareness of the boundary between the demonstration that maintains the disguise and the demonstration that destroys it.

Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the scar's recognition—the sensing of the exact texture that the fingers encounter, the perception of the particular mark that the memory preserves, the awareness of the boundary between the ordinary touch and the extraordinary discovery.

Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the signature execution—the sensing of the exact tension that the bow requires, the perception of the precise moment when the string will slip into place, the awareness of the boundary between the effort that reveals weakness and the ease that reveals mastery.

Attention Coupling is the capacity that permits the discrimination of the execution—the sensing of the exact target that the commencement requires, the perception of the precise moment when the doors must be locked, the awareness of the boundary between the justice that restores and the savagery that destroys.
